Blind Ferret "Booted" from Dragon*con?

  • Dec. 8th, 2009 at 4:30 PM
I found this thread over at Reddit.com today, called "Just another reason as to why I don't go to Cons anymore." It linked to a post by a past Dragon*con vendor, "Blind Ferret", who says they have been "booted" from Dragon*con 2010 over an "incident" Dragon*con was at fault in.

You can read all about it here: Booted from Dragon*con

Reddit posting: Just another reason as to why I don't go to Cons anymore.

People have been looking for an official Dragon*con response to all of this, but I haven't seen one posted as of yet.

Edit Not sure why I'm being confused with someone else, but just to be clear

1) I didn't post this anywhere else
2) I'm not affiliated with the comic. Never even heard of it till I read about it on reddit
3) Not trolling. Didn't say I supported either D*C or the comic people. Just said people were looking for a response from D*C and I hadn't seen one. That's it. I posted this because it was causing a big stir and worth at least mentioning.

Sheesh.

Video Editing

  • Dec. 8th, 2009 at 10:33 AM
I'm looking for a fast, reliable video service in Atlanta to edit a couple of home movies (less than 45 minutes worth of footage). They need to be able to transfer VHS to DVD/rip DVDs, add credits and menus, edit sound and video, add slideshows, etc. Cost is a factor and I need them by Christmas. Can anyone recommend someone they've used or heard was good?

Help a newbie cosplayer?

  • Dec. 3rd, 2009 at 9:51 AM
Heyla, folks. This year will be my third year at D*Con. After two years of going as Aeryn Sun or dressed up in my SCA clothes, I want to branch out a bit with my costuming.

On my wish list is a Jedi outfit, WoW Night Elf costume and a Fremen from Frank Herbert's Dune (aka the Sci-Fi channel version). Jedi and Nelf, I've found patterns/prosthetics for and can probably swing with little difficulty. However, I'm having a hard time finding patterns or advice on the Fremen stillsuit. Plugging the most likely suspects into Google has produced nothing I can use. Do any of you old-hands at cosplay have any suggestions for where I can look?

Thanks.

Notification System

  • Dec. 7th, 2009 at 1:15 PM
**FINAL EDIT Thu Dec 10 02:15:47 UTC 2009**

So there is the final update... Over the past day we have processed around 11 million jobs out of the 12 million that were in queue at that time. Please bear in mind that over this past day, more jobs for notifications are also created. So while the queue has been dropping, we are still not fully caught up at this point, due to backlog and new jobs. We have roughly 3 million jobs still pending that involve the notification system in some manner. We had hoped we could have fully cleared the queue in a day, but unfortunately we can't clear it too quickly, since we need the rest of the site to operate normally. From our current perspective on the amount of jobs that are left in queue, and how many it has processed thus far, we believe it will take around another 8 - 12 hours to process everything.

And finally some answers to some questions:

Next Topic: Dichotomies

  • Dec. 7th, 2009 at 1:45 PM

Last week brought us a fine discussion of Violence and Pacifism. We had a few folks show up — including one old friend — and we explored everything from how we perceived the subjects to how we enacted them in our lives to how the concepts fit into our religious practices and beliefs.

Tonight we talk about Dichotomies. Many things get broken into good and bad, dark and light, hard and soft, masculine and feminine, and a whole host of other dichotomies. Some of these relate to one another, while others can be mostly distinct. How do we see these dichotomies in our lives? Do we embrace and work with them, or do we reject them entirely? Do they relate to one another? If so, how, and if not then how are they sometimes thought to? How can we judge their value? How can they lead us to be better people or obstruct us from doing that? Come along tonight and join in the discussion!

With regard to scheduling and topics, consensus seems to be that interest is very low in the upcoming Calendars and Timekeeping topic. I’m replacing it. If you’re interested in seeing it rescheduled, please show up and share your thoughts.

New Year's Eve

  • Dec. 4th, 2009 at 2:56 PM
Looking for suggestions for New Year's Eve events. I have a friend coming into town and haven't done anything for NYE here except the Peach Drop. We'd want dinner/drinks/dancing, leaning more toward the classic/blues/jazz side of things (as opposed to dance/techno or urban/hip-hop). Also dressy/formal instead of casual. We're considering the Downtown Countdown at the Hyatt but haven't bought tickets yet (though I did go ahead and book a room, since that can be cancelled).

And just to be clear, this is a couple-y sort of evening. :)

Ideas welcome!
