Since we have 2 load balancers, the plan is to upgrade 1 at a time, and there really should be very little impact to our website. Hopefully you won't notice a thing and I'll get to go back to the hotel and watch some wonderful late night infomercials.
We've got a lot of exciting projects coming up for 2010 and we're hoping that we'll be able to deliver them all to you, that you will find it useful/cool/lovely and then you will use the site even more. Behind-the-scenes work like this will give us the capacity to handle the anticipated traffic, so expect a few more maintenance windows especially in the beginning of next year as we've got some neat ideas to improve performance around here! We had the recent 30-45 minute outage yesterday due to one of our logging databases filling up disk space -- not so great design coupled with my human error in handling the initial problem -- and it looks like we're going to finally have some resources to eliminate stuff like that. I can't wait!
As usual, I will be updating status.livejournal.org before and after, just in case you are not able to reach our main website during the work.

Created at D*C 2007, we were inspired by the art show and the cosplay elements of the convention to put together a site featuring all the great cosplayers and to produce a yearly calendar featuring themed artwork from the various fantasy and sci-fi genres represented at the many con's throughout the USA.
To bring the creativity and Inspirational fashion and design of the sci fi, fantasy, gothic, steampunk, horror, and alternative cultures and genres to the eyes of the often over critical mainstream.

I ask only because I don't wanna suffer from cranial overload like I did the first time I went to D*C back in '08. I would like to have some kind of guide so that when I go next year, it'll make forming a plan a little bit easier, and I won't get so overwhelmed when I go again in 2010.
Thanks in advance.
Last Week’s topic on Sacrifice started slow but built up into a nice deep conversation. Tonight, by request, we balance that depth with a simpler topic: Mythical Creatures. Myths are full of things ranging from daily to imaginary. Modern Pagans approach them in many ways, from purely fanciful to inspiring to active and practical in an energetic context. Let’s talk a bit about types of creatures people recognize, about what they mean in modern culture, and in particular about what part they play in modern Pagan practice. Come out and share!

I'm working on a novel.
Yes, that makes me about as unique as saying, "I have a facebook page."
The point is that I'm writing a novel about Dragon*Con. I've attended D*C for 10 years now and I've always enjoyed telling stories about the things that my friends and I have experience during our years at the convention, so I decided to write about it. I'm also one of those people with lofty dreams of transforming from a "writer" into a "published writer." So I've decided that I'll share the novel as each chapter becomes something that I'm comfortable with sharing. It's in no way a set in stone manuscript but more of a near-final draft.
At the time of this posting only the first chapter, more of a brief intro the setting, is available but the second will follow shortly. I plan to update the blog with a chapter or two every week, usually on the weekends.
What I would like is feedback from people that I don't know who have experienced Dragon*Con. I want to know what you think about it. So please leave a comment either positive or negative. Let me know what you like and what you didn't and what you would like to see.
So drop by and take a peek, at http://dragonconnovel.blogspot.com
Thanks and see you in 2010!

The empire strikes back
In recent weeks, we've taken huge steps towards blocking spam accounts on LiveJournal. In fact, we've suspended as many as 30,000 accounts in a single day! We've implemented several pre-emptive measures to prevent the creation of spam accounts, and we've honed our detection of suspicious content. Spam bots are a crafty lot, so we'll continue to refine our tactics and keep up the good fight to keep you safe from spam attacks on LiveJournal.RSS feeds again

Last week, we asked you to send in postcards to help us decorate our drab concrete walls. Here's a photo of the results so far! Thank you so much and please keep them coming! You can mail them to Frank the Goat, Esq., c/o LiveJournal, Inc., 539 Bryant Street, Suite 210, San Francisco, CA 94107. I have, ahem, sizable assets up top and would like to get some really nice quality bras, including a sports bra for exercise. The last time I was measured at a place with integrity, I lived in FL, so that does not help me now. My chest is weird in that I need a small band size with a large cup size. The aforementioned measurement was then a 34FF, the likes of which can not be found in most common bra places like Victoria's Secret or Fredericks, or even like a Lane Bryant. I'd like to get measured again and see what there is available.
I did google and yellow page this and I only found Intimacy, which had mixed reviews at best. And apparently they look at you to figure out your size instead of using actual measurements, which I am unsure of. I vaguely remembered someone mentioning Silver Lining, which of course, shut their doors the weekend before I started looking, lol!
So please, tell me of places you might know of or recommend that can help. Or tell me if you've been to Intimacy and what YOU thought of it. Thanks so much!
Wow! The Vampire Ball was amazing fun. And it occurred to me that I didn't tell you enough about it. For instance, did you know I created a band for the ball? Yup. Samantha Gillogly came down from Boston to play fiddle with the group. And one of my best friends, Jamie Haeuser, rocked the night out on the bodhran and backup vocals. Considering we had no rehearsal time with Samantha, I was blown away by just how great it all sounded. I heard quite a few compliments for the show too.
Over the weekend, the three of us jammed some more and there was a beautiful connection such that by Sunday we were asking ourselves what we were gonna call the band.
So yesterday, I was listening to the CD Baby DIY Podcast and got the idea to do a Band Naming Contest. Here's how it works. Every day this week, starting today, I want to hear your favorite band names for a Celtic band. At the end of the day, I will pick my favorite band name and that person will receive a free download of one of my albums. It'll last about a week. So start naming the band!

there was another Narissa, and also a Prince Edward or two (plus the plethora of Giselles) that I happened to see in this community after the fact after trying to run into them at the con.
Are they listening? Anyone know where they are on LJ? I'd like to get in touch with them again...
Thanks!!!
I can't find the pictures I took of Peter, George and the puppets which I would like for my records so did anyone else get photos of them?
Thanks-
Kath
